If you are looking for one of the best places to eat in downtown Sioux City, a locally owned restaurant is serving up huge flavor with their delicious Thai and Asian dishes. If you want ramen, pho, patt thai*, spring rolls, or other regional delicacies, you have to visit Pete's Thai on Fifth sometime. I went there recently to eat some of the great food for a lunch date with my husband, and based on my research and that in-person dining experience, here's what you should know about Pete's Thai on Fifth:
Where is Pete's Thai on Fifth?
Pete's Thai on Fifth is located at 507 Fifth Street (between Pierce and Nebraska) in downtown Sioux City. There is metered street parking in front of the restaurant and across the street from the restaurant, which is free on weekends, and after 5pm on weekdays. There are also various ramps throughout the downtown area. When we went, there was lots of spots open so we could easily park on the street nearby.Appetizers at Pete's Thai on Fifth
Pete's Thai on Fifth offers delicious appetizers, soups, and salads to start your meal with. I love the #4, the Crispy Fried Spring Roll with sweet chili peanut sauce. They're just the perfect amount of crispy outside and fresh, hot, flavorful filling. They have more than a dozen appetizers including not just those delicious spring rolls but also Thai style meatballs, turmeric crepes, crispy wings, curry puffed. So they probably have one you'd love too! For salads, choose from options like Thai papaya sala, larb, crispy fried fish salad, or roasted duck salad. And for soup, check out wonton soup, bean thread noodle soups, Tom Kha Krung, or "Pete's Thai 'Pho'" which is described by the restaurant as a fusion of Thai food and Vietnamese Noodle Soup.Entrees at Pete's Thai on Fifth
For their entrees, Pete's Thai on Fifth specializes in a wide variety of Thai and Asian dishes, including rice, ramen, noodle, and pho dishes, amongst others. I bought the #55, Patt Thai with chicken for myself, and my husband ordered the #57, the Spicy Wok Noodles, also with chicken. Both our dishes were hot, fresh, and delicious. I really appreciate that they offer dishes with a wide variety of heat levels and that it seems to be pretty clear on the menu what is spicy and wasn't (i.e. the spicy wok noodles.)
Some of the dishes on my list for things I definitely want to try in the future include the #35 Honey Roasted Duck, the #60 Thai Fried Rice, #50, the Pumpkin Curry, and the #8, Chicken a la Orange. But really everything on the menu sounds amazing!Drinks and desserts at Pete's Thai on Fifth
To go with your meal, Pete's Thai on Fifth offers drinks including standard types of American pop plus sparkling or still bottled water, juices including coconut juice, Thai iced tea, Thai iced coffee, and hot or cold jasmine tea. Then, end your meal at Pete's Thai on Fifth with a sweet treat like mango or strawberry mochi ice cream, sticky rice with fresh mango or coconut sweet rice with Thai egg custard. We didn't actually get dessert this time, but maybe next visit (and I'll definitely be back, because it was all so good!!)More info about Pete's Thai on Fifth
