The best peanut butter in the world might just be from South Dakota's Nerdy Nuts

Could the best peanut butter in the world be from just up the road in South Dakota?? I love trying and sharing about brands based in the three states that make up Siouxland, so when I heard about Nerdy Nuts, a gourmet peanut butter company based in Rapid City, South Dakota, I knew I had to try their peanut butter out! I ordered some (spoiler alert: delicious!!) Here's what you should know about Nerdy Nuts:

Nerdy Nuts is a gourmet peanut butter company started by a pair of South Dakotans, Erika and Craig who wanted fresh-ground peanut butter. Their peanut butter was so good that first friends and family started buying, then customers at a farmer's market, and now, the wider world via their website. Their products exude creativity and fun, and they've gone viral on tiktok with their imaginative flavors. Basically, they make really delicious peanut butter from scratch in classic flavors like honey roasted peanut and white chocolate, plus a gazillion fun seasonal and limited-edition flavors. They are so creative and it's really fun to see what they come up with!

For my first order from Nerdy Nuts, I bought a jar of Frosted Candy Bar and a mystery jar. Their website says that it can take up to 10 days to ship, but I had my peanut butter like 2 days after I ordered! I definitely think that's a fun perk of ordering from businesses that are in your area, even if they're a few hours away.

They had cute custom tape on their box, so I knew it was my peanut butter as soon as I saw it, and I was super excited!

The Frosted Candy Bar features a white chocolate peanut butter base topped with chocolate marshmallow frosting, cookie dough bits and m&ms! You can't really see the toppings because they are covered in peanut butter, but I promise they are in there, haha. Anyway, this flavor was so sweet and good. I feel like this is a super-versatile flavor that would go with almost anything.

The mystery jar I got was Chocolate Caramel Cheesecake, which is a white chocolate cheesecake peanut butter base with Oreo cookie bits, caramel, and mini caramel cups. It was also really delicious! I'm especially impressed at how they manage to make it a cohesive treat but with still-distinct flavors like the caramel and cheesecake flavors. Chocolate Caramel Cheesecake was definitely my fave of the two delicious flavors of peanut butter I bought from Nerdy Nuts this time. The flavor was a bit stronger than the flavor of the Frosted Candy Bar.

So, is Nerdy Nuts the best peanut butter in the world? Maybe!

Food preferences are so subjective, but I'd say it's at least the best peanut butter I've ever personally tried, and I will definitely order more in the future! We tried ours on Ritz crackers, graham crackers, waffles, and apple slices, plus just straight off the spoon, and it was really fun to see how the flavors and texture went with the different things we tried. Basically, it was delicious on everything, but we preferred the chocolate cheesecake peanut butter to balance other strong flavors like apple, and the milder cookie bar peanut butter with milder bases. My kids and I all liked both flavors, and we were divided on which was better than the other because they were just both so good.

Nerdy Nuts always has peanut butter, but they also at least sometimes offer other nut butters like almond butter, and some peanut butter varieties safe for pups, which is so cute! I think it'd be an adorable present to buy a few human flavors and a pup flavor of Nerdy Nuts peanut butter to send to my parents and their dog for Christmas or another special occasion.

Nerdy Nuts also sells a fun variety of non-PB merch, including quirky t-shirts, stickers, and peanut butter spoons.

To find out more about Nerdy Nuts or to purchase your peanut butter and merch, visit NerdyNuts.com or go to the Nerdy Nuts Experience at 405 Canal Street in Rapid City, South Dakota. After trying their peanut butter, I'm definitely adding their store to my South Dakota road trip bucket list! (I'll be sure to post again if I get to go to their store!)

Siouxland Fourth of July Fireworks & Fun

Fourth of July falls on a Thursday in 2024 and there is lots of patriotic fun happening. Here's where you can catch fireworks and celebrate the USA this year:

Little Chicago Deli is coming back to Sioux City!

Sioux City's newest eatery isn't actually new--it's just the newest iteration of a classic! Little Chicago Deli is opening in a new location just a couple doors down from the original restaurant, and they're opening on Friday May 31, 2024, for pickup orders and delivery, with the dining lobby opening later in summer 2024. Here's the info we have so far on Sioux City's new Little Chicago Deli: History of Little Chicago Deli Little Chicago Deli has been around Sioux City since 1988 as a locally owned sandwich shop, but unfortunately the previous location closed in 2017. Prior to that, I remember going there in college while I was doing an internship downtown, and I was sad to hear the original closed. But new owners, including some staff from the old Little Chicago Deli, are bringing it back in 2024! The name pays homage to local legends about Sioux City during Prohibition. For starters, Prohibition was widely ignored in Sioux City
