This new cookbook from Minnesota's Amy Thielen is focused on the idea of cooking for company. Inside, she shares recipes, menus, and ideas suitable for crowds from 6-8 (which is every night for dinner for me as a mom of four) to 20+ (family holidays!) Thank you to W.W. Norton for sending a review copy so that I could check it out and let other readers and home cooks know what to expect.

What is Company: The Radically Casual Art of Cooking for Others?
This new book is a nod to Midwestern hospitality and tradition, with recipes that will work for everything from casual summer barbecues to treasured holiday celebrations.
I tried the cranberry cookie tart recipe and it was the first time I've ever made a tart. I even bought a tart pan, which had always been on my wishlist but which I hadn't previously had a good excuse to actually buy. So I tried this tart a bit concerned that I wasn't up to the task. If you're new here, I'm not a professionally trained chef or cook of any kind, just a random enthusiastic Midwest mom. But with Thielen's recipe and instructions at the helm, I dove into my first ever tart, and to my delight, it worked!
My family really liked the resulting tart, especially when paired with ice cream as recommended in the book. The cranberries are quite tart, but the sugar cookie crust and the ice cream balanced it excellently.
I think it'd be a great addition to any Thanksgiving or Christmas meal (both holidays with their own chapters in the book) or other fancy fall or winter meals. Company also includes dozens upon dozens of recipes for events as varied as Easter, an all-you-can-eat fish fry (one of my personal favorite Midwesty events to attend!), Fourth of July, a family brunch around the fire pit, or an Argentinian-style asado potluck. Basically, if you ever host events, or want to bring something special to an event you're invited to, Company has your back.
Thielen's recipes really make it possible for an average Midwest home cook to take their dishes to the next level. Get ready to impress (and more importantly, love on) your friends and family with the dishes in Company: the Radically Casual Art of Cooking for Others. If I can do it, so can you!
Company: the Radically Casual Art of Cooking for Others is available online from Amazon and from brick-and-mortar bookstores around the Midwest and the world.
