What is Madcat Pumpkin Patch?

Madcat Pumpkin Patch is an 8-acre pumpkin patch, locally owned by farmer Michael Dailey. If you're looking for a no-fuss pumpkin patch experience where you can go to a field full of pumpkins on a working farm, this is the place for you! In 2023, the patch is planning to be open to the public beginning Friday, September 1st! Once opened, the patch is open to the public from sunrise to sunset every day until Halloween (October 31st)

New in 2022 was a 9-acre corn maze based on the Overlook Hedge Maze in the Shining, which is just south of the pumpkin patch. I've also heard there may be a test plot of giant Atlantic dill pumpkins for visitors to admire (I don't *think* these will be for sale but I will update once I hear back for sure, and I'll take a bunch of pics when I go visit!)

Admission to the patch is free!

Pumpkin prices for 2022 were $3 for small pumpkins, $5 for large pumpkins, or $30 for 10 pumpkins, and corn maze admission is $10 for each person 12+. No change is available at MadCat Pumpkin Patch, so bring exact cash.

Also look for straw bales, corn shucks, and squash for sale! Prices and availability vary.

Pumpkin Ale

Some of Dailey's Madcat pumpkins are used annually by Jefferson Beer Supply & Ben's Brewing in Yankton to create pumpkin ale! Head to Jefferson Beer Supply to get your hands on some Madcat PumpkinSlapper (or whatever delicious new concoction they come up with by the time you read this!) They are tentatively planning to brew again for 2022, but dates and quantity depend on when (and how many of) the right pumpkins are ripe!

Jefferson Beer Supply describes the flavor profile of the 2021 MadCat Pumpkin Slapper as "Sweet, balanced pumpkin flavor with caramel notes, hints of cinnamon and pie spices. A nice amber color and burnt sugar aroma. High abv, so a nice warming beer for the colder weather."

Little Chicago Deli is coming back to Sioux City!

Sioux City's newest eatery isn't actually new--it's just the newest iteration of a classic! Here's the info we have so far on Sioux City's new Little Chicago Deli: History of Little Chicago Deli Little Chicago Deli has been around Sioux City since 1988 as a locally owned sandwich shop, but unfortunately the previous location closed in 2017. Prior to that, I remember going there in college while I was doing an internship downtown, and I was sad to hear the original closed. But new owners, including some staff from the old Little Chicago Deli, are bringing it back in 2024! The name pays homage to local legends about Sioux City during Prohibition. For starters, Prohibition was widely ignored in Sioux City...
