Palmer's has been making great treats in Siouxland since the late 19th century,
and they've never stopped innovating. Their latest treat is "Bing Bites",
announced in July 2023. These are basically mini version of the classic Bing
candy bars, which are celebrating their 100th birthday in 2023! The Bing Bites
have cherry nougat centers and peanut studded chocolate coating like the
famed Palmer's Twin Bings and King Bings but in their own cute little form.
I love Bings and couldn't resist trying them out, so I headed to the Palmer's Old
Tyme Candy Shoppe on Wesley Parkway just west of downtown Sioux City. I got two bags and when I
bought mine, it was $3.99 for a 14oz bag.
Each Bing Bites is about one inch in diameter or about tablespoon in size and
according to the package, a serving size is five pieces, which adds up to 120 calories. Each Bing Bite could easily
be eaten in one big bite by an adult, but for little kids I recommend cutting
them in half or quarters.
They definitely did change the ratios a bit from the classic size of Bings, but I thought there was a really nice ratio of chocolate to cherry. It also seemed
like the peanuts were chopped more finely than in the classic sized Bings to balance the smaller size of the
Bing Bites. I love them as a treat to pop right in your mouth, but I also
think they' be great for other fun culinary uses, and in particular I think
these are the perfect ice cream topping and I want to try them in a s'more
sometime!
They'd also work well as a treat on a road trip or bike ride, but
I'd probably recommend freezing them ahead of time if you're planning to have
them in a hot vehicle or outside for very long before eating them. Because
they aren't individually wrapped, it seems like there is definitely potential
for them to melt together if they are left in the heat.
My kids who liked cherry Bings like the Bing Bites too, and my kid who doesn't like cherry Bings didn't care for these either. And because of the smaller peanut chunks, I felt a lot more comfortable giving it to my toddler who can't have choking hazards, and to my teen who has braces he's trying to not break.
As far as I can tell, these are not yet available online at time of posting, but they had plenty at the Palmer's Old Tyme Candy Shoppe if you're looking for them! I have also heard reports of them being available at Bomgaars. For more info on the store, check out my post about why I love the Palmer's Old Tyme Candy Shoppe.
