Why Hawks Coffee Shop is a Must-Visit in Sergeant Bluff

In 2018, a Sergeant Bluff woman opened a new coffee shop, named after her beloved father-in-law. Since then, it's flourished into one of the area's best places not just for coffee, but for community, which was her dream all along. Here's what families should know about Hawks Coffee Shop.

Where is Hawks Coffee Shop

Hawks Coffee Shop is at 110 Gaul Drive in Sergeant Bluff, IA. There is ample free parking in the lot front of the shop, and there is a drive-through at Hawks Coffee Shop. Hawks Coffee Shop is right next to the Sergeant Bluff Recreation Complex, and I definitely recommend visiting them on the way to or from sporting events there. I recently had a kids' sporting event at the rec complex that I had to drop one of my kids off for an hour early, so I went to Hawks and was back way before time to start cheering for my kid and it was such a nice treat to carry around with me and sip on while he competed.

Drinks at Hawks Coffee Shop

As the name implies, Hawks has lots of great coffee! They sell a variety of hot and cold coffee options including cold brew, lattes, americanos, frappucinos, and a plain old cup of joe. Hawks also serves up a good variety of non-coffee drinks including chai and green tea, hot cocoa, Italian sodas, and smoothies. I was really impressed with the large number of flavor options (including lots of sugar-free flavor syrups) and I'm lactose intolerant, so I was happy to see they have several alternative milks including oat, coconut, almond, and soy.

I tried the "caramel apple butter latte" from their September '22 specials list, but with almond milk, and it was so good. Very flavorful and sweet without being cloying or tasting artificial. And I tried a little sip of my kids' hot cocoas and those were delicious too!

Food at Hawks Coffee Shop

Hawks Coffee Shop is also ready to quench your appetite! Hawks has delicious soups, paninis, quiche, flatbreads, and grilled cheese sandwiches if you're in the mood for savory fare, and bread, muffins, cinnamon rolls, turnovers, scones, acai bowls, and mini cheesecakes when you're looking for a sweet treat. Many of their baked goods are sourced from Sioux City's "Love at First Bite" Bakery.

I tried some energy bites with mini M&Ms in them and they were very moisty and flavorful. I think my kids and I all wished I had bought more than one container for us to share!

Other Merchandise at Hawks Coffee Shop

Hawks Coffee Shop has a really cute selection of gifts and souvenirs. Some are coffee related, like mugs, but a lot was just general cute gifts like sweatshirts and decorative items. They also have a wine display with many options to buy.

Hawks Coffee Shop loves hosting events, and their huge variety of events really sets them apart. They have hosted events as varied as trivia night, yoga sessions, book and wine club, book and wine club, painting parties and other craft events for adults and kids! The cafe is kind of two connected large rooms, so it's easy to see how one of the rooms could easily be transformed into an event space with a lot of flexibility.

Siouxland Fourth of July Fireworks & Fun

Fourth of July falls on a Thursday in 2024 and there is lots of patriotic fun happening. Here's where you can catch fireworks and celebrate the USA this year:

Little Chicago Deli is coming back to Sioux City!

Sioux City's newest eatery isn't actually new--it's just the newest iteration of a classic! Little Chicago Deli is opening in a new location just a couple doors down from the original restaurant, and they're opening on Friday May 31, 2024, for pickup orders and delivery, with the dining lobby opening later in summer 2024. Here's the info we have so far on Sioux City's new Little Chicago Deli: History of Little Chicago Deli Little Chicago Deli has been around Sioux City since 1988 as a locally owned sandwich shop, but unfortunately the previous location closed in 2017. Prior to that, I remember going there in college while I was doing an internship downtown, and I was sad to hear the original closed. But new owners, including some staff from the old Little Chicago Deli, are bringing it back in 2024! The name pays homage to local legends about Sioux City during Prohibition. For starters, Prohibition was widely ignored in Sioux City
