TILT Studio: Sioux City's Family Fun Zone!

Sioux City's newest option for family fun is opening on Friday, July 29th, 2022 at 2pm at the Southern Hills Mall and on their website and social media the official name they're using is "Tilt Studio Southern Hills"! I haven't played any games yet, but I walked around Tilt Studio on a recent trip to the mall, and here's what I know so far about Tilt Studio Southern Hills:

What is Tilt Studio Southern Hills?

Tilt Studio Southern Hills is a family fun center with a variety of fun activities and games available for guests in over 10,000 square feet of space!

Tilt is based in Dallas and runs more than a dozen family fun centers, almost all located at malls across the nation, so you may have seen one in another city while travelling. Each Tilt location is unique, but they also have a lot in common, so if you have been to one of the others, our new Sioux City location should feel familiar.

Where is Tilt Studio Sioux City?

Tilt Sioux City is in Sioux City's Southern Hills Mall at 4480 Sergeant Road, in the former Sears location (far east side of the mall, almost to Hy-Vee.) There is ample free parking in the mall parking lots.

Play Cards, Points, and VIP Program at Tilt Southern Hills

Reload Play Cards at convenient kiosks!

Admission to Tilt is FREE (great news for baby siblings, parents and grandparents who may just want to watch!) and you pay for individual games and activities with a re-loadable "play card." If you register your card, you even earn points and can upgrade to VIP status for free after 1200 points! VIPs get a 10% discount on all games and activities! The Play Cards and points get a little bit confusing, but Tilt shared a graphic on their Facebook explaining it a bit more.

Basically, each attraction costs a certain number of points. According to their Facebook post on 7/28/22, the points are worth about 20c each (so you can add 50 points to your play card for $10 or 500 points to your play card for $100 or lots of amounts in between, but all with the same conversion rate) and the attractions range from just a few points for arcade games to quite a few for some of the big attractions.

A few specific prices they posted include:

  • 20 points for laser frenzy (about $4)
  • 26 points for mini bowling (about $5.20)
  • 36 points for laser tag (about $7.20)
  • 40 points for flip bumpers (about $8)

I am guessing they won't change the points rate for a while at least, but it looks like their Facebook will be the best place to watch to get the most update info on that.

Also, many of the games reward players with tickets, and those are redeemable for prizes at the redemption counter, which looks really fun! Prizes vary, but here's what was there when I went:

Parties at Tilt Sioux City

Laser Tag!

TILT Studios love hosting parties! They have several party options to choose from, so check out their website. All of the party options I saw on the Tilt website from their other locations included access to the party room, cute Tilt themed electronic invitations, paper plates etc for the guests, and cleanup by the Tilt employees as part of the party package price! Some of the additional fun choices in specific packages include 60 minutes of unlimited arcade play, goodie bags, ice cream, and more. They posted in August 2022 that they are booking parties beginning September 15th, 2022.

Food at Tilt Studio Southern Hills

There is a little cafe/food court area inside Tilt Studio with tables and chairs, serving up typical fun center fare like hot dogs, pizza, and pop. The prizes were definitely expensive by Sioux City standards, but not outrageous for an event venue.

Siouxland Fourth of July Fireworks & Fun

Fourth of July falls on a Thursday in 2024 and there is lots of patriotic fun happening. Here's where you can catch fireworks and celebrate the USA this year:

Little Chicago Deli is coming back to Sioux City!

Sioux City's newest eatery isn't actually new--it's just the newest iteration of a classic! Little Chicago Deli is opening in a new location just a couple doors down from the original restaurant, and they're opening on Friday May 31, 2024, for pickup orders and delivery, with the dining lobby opening later in summer 2024. Here's the info we have so far on Sioux City's new Little Chicago Deli: History of Little Chicago Deli Little Chicago Deli has been around Sioux City since 1988 as a locally owned sandwich shop, but unfortunately the previous location closed in 2017. Prior to that, I remember going there in college while I was doing an internship downtown, and I was sad to hear the original closed. But new owners, including some staff from the old Little Chicago Deli, are bringing it back in 2024! The name pays homage to local legends about Sioux City during Prohibition. For starters, Prohibition was widely ignored in Sioux City...
