Looking for things to do in Sioux City? Every month I list family-friendly events in Siouxland, from storytimes to craft events and concerts, along with a few holidays from serious to silly! I'll update throughout the month as new events and details are released. You might also be interested in my post about Easter in Siouxland.

    • 6-8pm: Cherry Blossom glass fusing class at Pickled Palette, $48 per project, sign up here.
    • 7pm: Easter Celebration show at the Browns Century Theater in LeMars, tickets $8-30 depending on ages and options chosen
    • 7:05pm: Sioux City Musketeers hockey vs the Lincoln Stars at the Tyson Events Center, $7-10 for kids and $10-19 for adults depending on seats chosen.

    • Surprise EggsPedition at the Lewis & Clark Interpretive Center--come anytime during normal museum hours (noon to 5pm) to participate! Kids can hunt for eggs around the Center grounds, and once they find 10, redeem them for a prize! FREE
    • 10:30am-noon: Saturday Family Art Workshop at the Sioux City Art Center: Seed Mosaics, $7 per project, kids 7 & younger must be accompanied by an adult helper. Masks required.
    • 11am: First Saturday Family Storytime hosted on Zoom by the Sioux City Public Library. Sign up online here or by calling (712)255-2933 and asking for youth services. Then, pick up a free activity packet ahead of the storytime to go with it! FREE
    • 11:15am to 1pm: Drive-Through Easter treats at Primebank in LeMars for kids 12 & under, more details here. FREE
    • 1:30pm: Easter Celebration show at the Browns Century Theater in LeMars, tickets $8-30 depending on ages and options chosen
    • 6:30pm: Spring Board Painting workshop at Poppin Bottles n Brushes, sign up here. $40 per project

    • 10:30am-noon: Saturday Family Art Workshop: Watercolor Salt Paintings at the Sioux City Art Center, $7 per project, kids 7 & younger must be accompanied by an adult helper. Masks required.
    • 11am: Burger Battle Royale: PB&J edition at P's Pizza House hosted by the Fat Boy Food Blog, with live music from Ben Grillet, Dane Louis, and the Gary & Dani Show. Free to attend, and food will be available for purchase from P's as well as from the Big Papa's and Daga's on Wheels food trucks.

    • Thomas Jefferson's Birthday: head to the Lewis and Clark Interpretive Center to see the museum's animatronic President Jefferson and learn more about his role in the Lewis and Clark Expedition

    • 10am: Nature Tales at the Dorothy Pecaut Nature Center. Preschoolers with an adult caregiver will enjoy an egg-based storytime this month, plus a hike to the nature playscape if weather permits! Call (712)258-0838 or e-mail TKruid@WoodburyParks.org to sign up--space is limited! FREE

    • Noon: Litter Dash! Registration is now closed, but if you signed up with a team, follow the directions from your team leader or the parks & rec department to participate. But even if you did not sign up, you are still encouraged to pick up some litter in your corner of Siouxland today!

    • All day: Indie Bookstore Day celebration at Book People, including a book signing with me! I think the book would be a great Mother's Day gift (maybe even tuck in a gift certificate to somewhere you want to take your mom someday!) and it's a great place to find inspiration for family adventures this spring and summer. But even if you already have my book or don't want it, come check out the fun and say hi! More details on Independent Bookstore Day fun at Book People.

    • 10am: Ho-Chunk Village Farmer's Market in Winnebago
    • 10am: Floyd Cemetery Walking Tour hosted by the Sioux City Public Museum
    • 10:30am-noon: Saturday Family Art Workshop:3D Mixed Media Houses at the Sioux City Art Center, $7 per project, kids 7 & younger must be accompanied by an adult helper. Masks required.
    • Noon: Earth Day flowerpot craft at the Southern Hills Mall
    • Noon-4pm: Clay Handprint craft workshop at the Le Mars Art Center, $15 per project, registration ahead of time requested, but walk-ins will be accommodated if there is extra space. There are less than 10 spots still showing online as available at time of posting this, so sign up ASAP if you know you want to participate!
    • 1pm: NAIA Football Quarterfinal Game at Olsen Stadium featuring the Morningside Mustangs vs. Baker University
    • 7:05pm: Sioux City Musketeers hockey vs the Fargo Force at the Tyson Events Center, $7-10 for kids and $10-19 for adults depending on seats chosen.
    • 7:30pm: Simple Gifts presented by the Sioux City Symphony Orchestra live at the Orpheum Theater

    • Birthday of ornithologist John Audubon, namesake of western Iowa's Audubon County: celebrate by making a bird feeder with your kids, heading to the Dorothy Pecaut Nature Center for some birdwatching, or by making a trip to Audubon County!
    • 4pm: Lego Building returns to the North Sioux City Library!! Be sure to call to register so they can make sure they have enough bricks for everyone. This will probably fill up quickly!

Siouxland Fourth of July Fireworks & Fun

Fourth of July falls on a Thursday in 2024 and there is lots of patriotic fun happening. Here's where you can catch fireworks and celebrate the USA this year: 

Little Chicago Deli is coming back to Sioux City!

Sioux City's newest eatery isn't actually new--it's just the newest iteration of a classic! Little Chicago Deli is opening in a new location just a couple doors down from the original restaurant, and they're opening on Friday May 31, 2024, for pickup orders and delivery, with the dining lobby opening later in summer 2024. Here's the info we have so far on Sioux City's new Little Chicago Deli: History of Little Chicago Deli Little Chicago Deli has been around Sioux City since 1988 as a locally owned sandwich shop, but unfortunately the previous location closed in 2017. Prior to that, I remember going there in college while I was doing an internship downtown, and I was sad to hear the original closed. But new owners, including some staff from the old Little Chicago Deli, are bringing it back in 2024! The name pays homage to local legends about Sioux City during Prohibition. For starters, Prohibition was widely ignored in Sioux City
